Daktronics lane speakers

From Libre Aquatics Wiki, the free aquatics reference

Daktronics, Inc., of Brookings, South Dakota, equips its HS-200 Horn Start with an under-block lane speaker, 4J model 306-45-54 (catalog number DS-1059), one behind each starting block. The HS-200 drives up to ten of them from a dedicated lane output with its own sealed volume control.12 As with the Colorado Time Systems equivalent, the horn itself is not made by Daktronics: the 306-45 is the reflex horn made by Fourjay Industries of Dayton, Ohio. The HS-200’s auxiliary and backstroke speakers are covered in the HS-200 article; shared background on lane speakers is in the external-speakers overview.

Design and construction

The lane speaker is the Fourjay 306-45, the 45 ohm version of Fourjay’s 306 Series reflex horn, the same horn Colorado Time Systems sells as its SP-6/45.3 Daktronics designates it 306-45-54; the owner’s manual does not define the trailing 54, which most likely records a cable length but is unconfirmed.1 The 45 ohm impedance is what allows the several lane speakers to share the lane output on the start system.3

Daktronics installs each lane speaker tilted downward so that water drains out of the horn rather than pooling inside it, and offers speaker extension cords in lengths from 10 ft to 200 ft (3 m to 61 m) to reach the blocks.1 The horn is built from impact- and UV-resistant ABS with stainless-steel fasteners and a moisture-resistant reflex driver.3

Specifications

The lane speaker’s ratings are Fourjay’s for the 306-45; Daktronics does not publish separate figures.3
