Atlantis Swimming Starter System

From Libre Aquatics Wiki, the free aquatics reference

The Atlantis Swimming Starter System is a portable start system for swimming made by Superior Swim Timing (SST). SST, founded in 2010 by Pete Santilli, sells the Atlantis alongside its laptop timing software, SST timer, mobile scoreboard, and button and cable lines. SST opened pre-orders in March 2019 and introduced the starter on May 8, 2019.123 It combines an internal speaker, a 360 degree LED start strobe, and a microphone in one battery-powered unit, and is sold directly by SST and through SwimNerd.45 SST publishes no wattage or manufacturer for the internal speaker. This article is a starting point; the start-systems overview covers the shared background that applies to every starter.

Naming and product line

The Atlantis is sold in two configurations that differ only in mounting: the base unit, and the unit bundled with the quick-connect pole and wall mount.56 The base package ships with the starter unit and its built-in 360 degree LED strobe, a microphone with a 25 foot cable, and a power adapter.5

Design and hardware

The unit measures 13.5 by 12 by 8 inches and weighs 8.2 lb. It sits on a table, mounts on a standard photography tripod, or installs permanently on a pole or wall; the pole and wall mount with quick connect, which allows side-to-side and up-and-down adjustment, is sold as a variant. The included microphone has a 25 foot cable, and spare microphones are available.75

SST rates the battery at three to four days of meet operation per charge, with a battery monitor showing the state of charge; the unit runs with or without the charger connected, and indicator lights show charging and external power status. The batteries are rechargeable and replaceable.75

Operation

The start strobe is a 360 degree LED unit that SST describes as visible even in full sun; an optional external strobe connects with an on/off switch and no cable changes.7 The start outputs are compatible with Colorado Time Systems and Daktronics timing systems, which SST presents as part of a broader claim of compatibility with all timing systems, and SST sells starter microphones for those two systems as separate products.76

Audio

Beyond the internal speaker, the Atlantis drives a full set of SST lane speakers through SST speaker harnesses, sold in six-, eight-, and ten-lane versions.76
