Superior Swim Timing (SST) is an American manufacturer of swim meet timing software and equipment, founded in 2010 by Pete Santilli.12 The company’s central product is laptop-based timing software that connects to a small external timing box over USB, which SST markets as a lower-cost alternative to the larger dedicated timing consoles used at major meets.1 Alongside the software, SST sells the SST timer, the Atlantis Swimming Starter System, a mobile scoreboard, lane speakers and speaker harnesses, and button and cable lines.134

History

SST was founded in 2010 by Pete Santilli to build lower-cost timing systems aimed at high schools, summer leagues, club teams, and colleges, combining custom hardware with off-the-shelf parts.12 The company’s dated product notices include a version 7 software release in April 2018, a March 2019 pre-order teaser for the Atlantis starter, and the Atlantis launch on May 8, 2019.56

SST does not publish a headquarters address, and third-party business listings disagree on its location (some place it in Jacksonville, Florida, others in Superior, Colorado, the latter likely inferred from the company name), so no single location is stated here.2

Products

  • Timing software, a laptop-based system that supports up to ten lanes and interfaces with meet-management software such as Hy-Tek’s Meet Manager, using the SST timer as its USB hardware interface.12
  • The SST timer, the external timing box that connects the timing hardware to the laptop software over USB.1
  • The Atlantis Swimming Starter System, a portable start system with an internal speaker, a 360 degree LED start strobe, and a microphone, introduced May 8, 2019.36
  • The SST lane speakers, under-block lane speakers and 6-, 8-, or 10-lane speaker harnesses that the Atlantis drives in addition to its internal speaker.34
  • A mobile scoreboard, a spectator-facing result view.1
  • Buttons and cables, and replacement starter microphones for Colorado Time Systems and Daktronics start systems.14

In swim timing

SST states that its timing products work with all timing systems, and its starter documentation lists compatibility with Colorado Time Systems and Daktronics equipment; these compatibility claims are the company’s own, and SST publishes few electrical specifications for its hardware.34 The products are sold directly by SST, through its online shop, and through the SwimNerd store, which lists them alongside SST’s timing systems.78

In competition

SST has reported providing timing for events outside the United States, including the 2016 South American Masters Championship in Uruguay.5
