Water polo equipment

The hardware used to run a water polo match, the goals that define the field of play, the game and shot clocks that govern possession, and the displays and table gear that officials use to manage a period. Water polo is a timed team game, so its equipment centres on two clocks running at once: the game clock and the shot clock.

Water polo equipment is grouped by role:

• Goals, the floating frames and nets set at each end of the field of play.
• Game and shot-clock consoles, the timing console at the officials’ table that runs the period clock and the possession (shot) clock together.
• Deck displays, the shot-clock and game-clock faces mounted at each end of the pool where players and referees can read them.
• Scoreboards, the boards showing the score, period, and time, often integrated with the pool’s timing system.
• Table equipment, the exclusion and possession indicators and other gear the table officials use to manage fouls and the running score.
